Haverhill’s existing Vietnam War Memorial has been relocated from the foot of the Basiliere Bridge to Mill Street Park near Plug’s Pond ahead of this weekend’s dedication ceremony. Members of Mayor James J. Fiorentini’s Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Ad Hoc Commission oversaw the effort carried out by teams from Atwood Memorials and Davco Excavation Monday afternoon.

The relocation comes days before the Commission formally marks the new site with a citywide ceremony attended by family members of the city’s fallen comrades.

Event organizer and Commission Chairman Ralph T. Basiliere, the namesake nephew of the city’s first Vietnam casualty, tells WHAV city leaders will offer remarks starting at 10 a.m. before Haverhill opera singer Neal Ferreira performs several songs.
