State Police arrested a 23-year-old Brockton driver and his passenger for illegal firearms possession Sunday during an early morning traffic stop on the Route 125 stretch of Andover.

Trooper Daniel Purtell was on patrol when he stopped an Infiniti Q50 for speeding, only to discover a loaded Kahr CW 45 firearm with a defaced serial number.

Driver Marcos Silveria was arrested along with passenger Erikson Vieira of Dorchester. Both men were charged with illegal possession of a loaded firearm with a defaced serial number, authorities said. Silveria also faces several motor vehicle-related charges.

They were scheduled for arraignment in Lawrence District Court Monday.
