Thomas F. Coffin, III, 93, Retired from The Haverhill Gazette

Thomas F. Coffin, III, 93, a longtime Newburyport resident, passed away quietly on Friday, April 20 at Port Healthcare Center in Newburyport.

Born in Newburyport on May 20, 1924, he was the son of the late Thomas F. Coffin Jr. and Mildred E. (Macdougal) Coffin and was a graduate of Amesbury High School.

His lifetime career as a newspaper typographer began with the family business, The Amesbury News, owned by his father, Thomas Coffin and uncles, Ernest and William Coffin. After the sale of the business, he finished his career at the Haverhill Gazette, retiring in 1986.

Coffin was predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Constance (Daoust) Coffin, who passed away in 1986, and his second wife, Rosemary (Deyerle0 Coffin in 2013. He leaves behind two daughters, Janice M. Melanson and husband Orman of Sanford, Maine and Gail Marshall of West Portland, Maine; his son, Thomas F. Coffin, IV and wife Claudia; a stepdaughter, Martha Gingerich and husband Michael “Mike’, along with several grandchildren, step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

By his request, private burial will be held at Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Amesbury. Arrangements are by Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green St., Newburyport.
