Luis Rodriguez, 24, of Haverhill, who allegedly shot and killed Aracelys Valdez Deleon, 40, of Lowell, on Easter Sunday in Lawrence, was arrested overnight in Sulphur Springs, Texas, by the Hopkins City Sheriff’s office.

Rodriguez allegedly shot the victim and her companion, a 25-year-old Lawrence man, at about 8 p.m. outside of the La Cava nightclub. He survived the shooting.

Rodriguez is charged with murder, assault and battery with a firearm and illegal possession of a firearm. He was arraigned today at the Hopkins County Law Enforcement Facility in Sulphur Springs on a fugitive from justice charge, and ordered held without bail. Rodriguez indicated he will not waive extradition, according to Steve O’Connell, spokesperson for Essex County District Attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett.

The Essex District Attorney’s office will seek a Governor’s Warrant to return him to Massachusetts, a process that can take up to 90 days.

The case will be prosecuted by Essex Assistant District Attorney A.J. Camelio.
