State Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Matthew A. Beaton is headlining a Haverhill breakfast program this Thursday aimed at helping businesses and homeowners reduce energy costs and become more energy efficient.

Besides Beaton, the annual Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce program features a panel of energy experts. Chamber President Joseph J. Bevilacqua says the free presentation is a continuation of the business group’s award-winning program.

“We provide real assistance to businesses. This is a continuation of that program which will provide opportunities to learn about energy conservation—measures that the state has as well as some of the private utility companies and others,” he says.

The Energy and Environmental Conference takes place Thursday, May 10, from 7:30-9:30 a.m., at UMass Lowell Innovation Hub, downtown Haverhill. Bevilaqua says this year’s new location is aimed at giving downtown Haverhill a boost.

“We’re trying obviously to give you exposure to iHub—we’re trying to bring some attention to iHub—and, hopefully, help fill some of those vacant storefronts. Those vacant storefronts at Harbor Place have been vacant too long.”
