Sandown, N.H., Readies for Old Home Day

The 2016 Sandown, N.H., Old Home Day Fall Festival takes place Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9 and 10, centered at the Edward C. Garvey Recreation Building, 25 Pheasant Run Drive, Sandown.

Festivities kick off with a 21 and over dance with chili contest, live entertainment and cash beer and wine tent, Sept. 9, from 7 to 11 p.m., at the recreation center. Contest proceeds, from $2 entry fee and $5 tasting fee, will be used toward a winner’s “cash pot.” Awards for citizen and young citizen of the year will also be presented. Admission is free.

Daytime activities Sept. 10, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., include a free pancake breakfast; morning parade on Main Street between Sandown Central School and Glastombury Drive; children’s entertainment and petting zoo; bed races; dog show; pie-eating contest; stage performances and 50-50 “cow plop bingo,” with tickets costing $5 per square.

Activities culminate with evening entertainment and fireworks, 6 to 10 p.m., at Sandlots Sports and Entertainment, 56 North Road, Sandown. Admission is free. Fireworks begin at 9 p.m.
