Raymond A. “Ray” Germain, 70, Worked for Armstrong Cork

Raymond A. “Ray” Germain, 70, passed away Nov. 29, at Massachusetts General Hospital. He was the husband of Jean M. (Smith) Germain.

Born in Haverhill on April 28, 1946, he was the son of the late Raymond J.T. and Thelma E. (Bailey) Germain. Germain graduated from Pentucket Regional High School, class of 1964. He continued his education at Wentworth Institute of Technology receiving degrees in Building Construction Technology and Architectural Engineering Technology. He also attended Northern Essex Community College, and received his degree in Electronic Technology. Out of college, he was employed as a merchandiser for Armstrong Cork Co. traveling throughout New England and New York. He also enjoyed working in the lumber yard industry prior to joining Western Electric where he was employed for 20 years. With a good work ethic and course studies, he advanced to electronic technician before retiring in 2000. He was active in Boy Scouts; volunteered in the community, church and schools; and was a bicyclist, reader, puzzler and do-it-yourselfer. He enjoyed watching sports, a good pun, and the outdoors and appreciated the “old ways” and could spend hours revisiting a time gone by through historical events, homes, trains, bridges and cars. He owned a 1946 Hudson in hopes of restoring it one day.

Besides his wife of 45 years, Germain is survived by his children, Alison Krepp and husband Larry of Frederick, Md., Matthew Germain and wife Caitlyn of Spencer, Colleen Brennan and husband Rob of Troy, N.H.; grandchildren, Larry, Mareks and Valerijs Krepp, Raea Germain, Reilly and Gabriel Brennan; sister, Suzanne Raymond of Bradford; and cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral Friday, Dec. 9, at 11 a.m. at Dole, Childs and Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main St., Haverhill. Calling hours are Thursday, from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to East Hampstead Union Church, P.O. Box 109, East Hampstead, NH 03826.
