Haverhill High’s Class of 2018 could enjoy the earliest commencement ceremony in recent memory with the potential for a June 1 graduation date next year.

School Committee members are poised to approve a proposed 2017-2018 calendar that would see school start on Aug. 29 and, barring any snow days or other unexpected closures, let all students out for the summer on June 8.

The School Committee meets Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Theodore A. Pelosi meeting room on the second floor of Haverhill City Hall. In addition to approval of next year’s school calendar, the committee plans to discuss the 2017-2018 school year budget.

This year, school began on Aug. 30 and was scheduled to end for grades kindergarten through 11 on June 12, but six snow days pushed the close of school to June 20. The senior class will graduate on June 2 at Trinity Stadium.

Senior activities begin in mid-May, and classes end for the graduating class roughly two weeks before graduation. This year’s last day for seniors is May 23.

Haverhill High School traditionally holds graduation on Friday evening.
