A Franklin Street man, allegedly involved in a robbery that led to a four-hour standoff on the same street almost two weeks ago, was arrested again by Haverhill police Thursday for two additional business break-ins and attempted break.
Late Thursday morning, Brandon Lucia, 24, 67 Franklin St., was arrested at his home by Haverhill police and members of the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section. Police first arrested Lucia the same day Carlos Perez barricaded himself in the basement of a single-family house at 71 Franklin St. As WHAV reported then, police allege Lucia helped Perez rob a Dunkin’ Donuts shop on Amesbury Road. Since then, he had been released and equipped with an electronic monitoring bracelet pending a return to court.
Thursday’s arrest related to breaking and entering at night and theft at Tire Warehouse, 773 River St.; breaking and entering at night, malicious destruction of property and theft at an ATM at Lucky’s Pizza, 251 Primrose St.; and attempted break at One Stop Market, 651 Broadway. Lucia was arraigned Thursday in Haverhill District Court.
On the afternoon of Jan. 9, Detective Glen Fogarty attempted to arrest Perez, 37, of 9 Forest Acres Drive, for the doughnut shop robbery. Perez pulled a handgun out of his waistband, threatened Fogarty and fled. He was then cornered after he entered the basement of the home through a bulkhead.
“A law enforcement officer was heard yelling ‘gun!’ and shots were fired,” Detective Lt. Robert P. Pistone said then.
Meanwhile, State Presses More Charges Against Perez
At his dangerousness hearing Thursday, Perez was charged with additional crimes relating to the standoff.
He was arraigned on six counts armed and masked robbery, two counts breaking and entering in the nighttime for a felony, larceny from a building, attempting to commit a crime, three counts of destruction of property, witness intimidation, two counts of larceny over $250, 10 counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and unarmed robbery.
Perez was held without bail and his case is scheduled for a probable cause hearing March 1.
