A 41-year-old Haverhill man died after he fell down an elevator shaft at a construction site at 98 Essex St. in downtown Haverhill, the Essex County District Attorney’s Office tells WHAV. The man’s name is being withheld pending family notification, DA spokeswoman Carrie Kimball Monahan said. He is said to have worked for a local roofing company.
A call came into Haverhill Police at 10:20 a.m. and personnel from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner were on scene Tuesday afternoon as a body was taken away from the site on a stretcher.
The City of Haverhill has ordered the site shut down for the day, according to Health and Inspectional Services Director Richard MacDonald.
