Paul M. Fitzmeyer, 68, Attended Northern Essex Community College

Paul M. Fitzmeyer was born in Revere, MA on July 15, 1950 to his proud parents Paul and Virginia Fitzmeyer. At a very young age, his parents moved to North Reading. He graduated from North Reading High School, Class of 1968.

Fitzmeyer worked at Compugraphic Corp. as a photo technician in their lab after earning his Associates Degree at Northern Essex Community College. Eventually he switched over to computer programming for the same company. After attending both Northeastern and St. Anselm College, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. He went on to earn his Master’s Degree at Boston University, also in Software Engineering. Most of his life was spend in this field, where he received high praise from his peers.

Paul’s additional places of employment were Centronics, Wang, Alden, and Hewlett Packard. He worked full-time for many years at Siemen’s Medical. He was also a former founder of Zoe Medical in Topsfield. Paul was a well-respected and gifted software developer. He was known in the industry as a detail-oriented, meticulous, conscientious employee who worked on the “bare metal.”

He was a man of great integrity. If he was not comfortable with test results on his work, he refused to sign off on a project regardless of pressure put on him by his supervisors. He was always honest and upfront regarding his principles and opinions.

His accomplishments include successful work in the fields of typesetting, printers, weather satellite data and medical devices. He was a lover of knowledge. His interests included reading, music, chess, cryptography and especially mathematics, which led him to a latter career of teaching.

During the past 13 years, he was a mathematics teacher at Whittier Vocational Technical High School, from which he eventually retired in June of 2017.

Paul’s focus was always on how he could provide for his family—a goal at which he excelled. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kathleen Fitzmeyer; two daughters, Ellen and Emily; son-in-law Joshua Twohig; two sisters, Pamela Dickey and Susan Bearor; sister in laws Debra Crookes and Michelle Tetreault; brother in laws, Lee Dickey, Karl Bearor, Walter Crookes, Francis and Jason Down and Craig Tetreault; along with cousins, nephew and nieces.
