Whittier Birthplace Trustees Margaret “Peg” Toomey and Joan Cranton gave WHAV listeners Monday night an idea of what to expect during “Snow-Bound Weekend,” taking place this weekend.

The trustees and organizers of the event appeared on WHAV’s Open Mike Show with host Tim Coco, also a Whittier trustee.

“Snow-Bound Weekend,” a festive historical journey, takes place Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 11 and 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Each re-creation, taking place in front of the very hearth John Greenleaf Whittier describes in his famous poem, takes about 20 minutes. Visitors are also welcome to enjoy refreshments, hear music and review period carriages owned and restored by Shawn McCusker of Haverhill.

Listeners also heard about a political cartoon used by the late William C. Pike during one of his Haverhill City Council re-election campaigns. Pike was also a former host of the Open Mike Show.
