Community-building events from Haverhill’s Earth Day Cleanup to a concert benefitting Timberlane students were the focus of Monday’s Open Mike Show.

David LaBrode, who has been working with Haverhill’s Brightside since 2000, called attention to Haverhill’s Earth Day Clean Up, Sat. April 22, between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. He noted incentives for those pre-registering online as volunteers include a chance to win one of two entry-level trail bikes from Riverside Cycle. Other raffle prizes include bike helmets. All volunteers receive an Earth Day t-shirt while supplies last.

Kathleen McGuirk, Timberlane Community Band president, and conductor John Mainella discussed “Through the Decades,” featuring music from the 1950s to the 80s. Proceeds from the event, which includes a buffet dinner and silent auction, benefit the Timberlane Scholarship Fund and Timberlane School District Music Program. The concert takes place Friday, April 28, 6 p.m., at Castleton, Windham, N.H.

Photojournalist Cindy Driver also discussed her observations of last Saturday’s 20 Arlington St. fire that destroyed four condominium units.

WHAV’s Open Mike Show is heard Monday nights at 6:30 p.m. over 97.9 FM, WHAV.net and area public access television stations. It is also presented with video on HC Media channel 22 in Haverhill, WHAV’s Facebook page and WHAV.TV.
