Spending nearly six years advocating for residents in Haverhill and Methuen in the state Senate, Kathleen O’Connor Ives has decided not to seek re-election to a fourth term.

O’Connor Ives’ Beacon Hill colleague, Rep. Diana DiZoglio, will run for the soon-to-be-vacant seat in the 1st Essex District.

The married mother of a young son, O’Connor Ives will leave a lasting impression on the Senate floor, say colleagues.

“Sen. O’Connor Ives has been an outstanding public servant that will be missed,” fellow Haverhill legislator Rep. Andy Vargas told WHAV. “Whenever we’ve worked together on Haverhill issues, she has been there to stand up for those who often feel voiceless. I wish her and her family all the best.”

DiZoglio, now in her third term representing the 14th Essex District, which includes Methuen and parts of Haverhill, will kick off her Senate campaign efforts April 5 at DiBurro’s.
