Nicholas H. Pappas, 65, Maine Health and Human Services Supervisor

Nicholas H. Pappas, 65, of Londonderry, N.H., and formerly of Lamoine Maine, and Haverhill, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Saturday, June 24, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, Haverhill.

Pappas was born in Haverhill Aug. 20, 1951, son of Mary E. (Johnson) Pappas of Haverhill and the late Harry J. Pappas. He was educated in the Haverhill school system and graduated from Haverhill High School with the class of 1969. He attended North Yarmouth Academy in Maine, before earning his bachelor’s at Nasson College and earning his master’s from Eastern Kentucky University. He dedicated 25 years to the children of Maine as the Maine Department of Health and Human Services childrens’ services supervisor. He enjoyed cooking, and cheering for his beloved New England Patriots. He was a lover of music and was the president of the Bangor Symphony Youth Orchestra and involved with MDI Music Booster.

Pappas is survived by his wife and soulmate Shelagh (Harrington) Pappas of Londonderry, N.H.; mother, Mary E. Pappas of Haverhill; four children, Jeffrey P. Higgins and his girlfriend Kendra Garvin of Topsfield, Nicholas J. Pappas and his wife Sarah of Lisbon, Maine, Cailin E. Pappas and Arianna A. Pappas both of Lamoine, Maine; brother and best friend, Dr . Harry R. Pappas and his wife, and Nick’s greatest ally, Jacqueline of Winter Park, Fla.; two sisters, Cornelia E. Pappas and her husband Nicholas Tambakis of China and Victoria Thanos and her husband Dr. Nicholas Thanos of California; as well as several nieces, nephews, special godchildren, many friends and extended family.

At the request of his family, funeral services are private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Katherine A. Gallagher Integrative Therapies Program at Massachusetts General Hospital, Developmental Office Mass General Hospital, 125 Nashua St., Suite 540, Boston, MA 02114 and/or the High Pointe House, Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 North Ave. Haverhill, MA 01830. Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Homes, Haverhill and Bradford.
