New ‘Hidden Pig’ Restaurant to Fill Empty Historic District Storefront

A new restaurant will soon fill the long-vacant former Blue Finn Grille space in downtown’s Washington Street Historic District.

“The Hidden Pig,” featuring what is described as “burgers and bacon” fare, plans to open in mid-October, said Phillip C. Bentham II, owner and manager. The space, near the downtown railroad station at 130 Washington St., is currently undergoing renovations. When complete, the restaurant will feature a 24 by 24-foot deck in the rear facing the Merrimack River.

“I’ve always had a knack for it. I always liked working with people,” said Bentham.

The 31-year-old Methuen resident explained he grew up in a restaurant family. In his own right, he has also worked in area restaurants more than 10 years, including Texas Roadhouse, Methuen; Salvatore’s, Lawrence and Boston; and The Goat, Hampton, N.H.

There will be 50 seats inside and another 40 seats once the outside deck is complete. Besides burgers and bacon, Bentham said there will be vegetarian offerings. He also plans to offer craft beer as part of a full liquor license.

Before Blue Finn Grille, the building housed “George’s” and, earlier, “Cobblestone Cafe and Sweet Shoppe.”

    Phil is one of the friendliest, well rounded guys I’ve ever met. I have no doubt he and his restaurant will excel and bring everyone together for a great bite and welcoming atmosphere !!!
