Nancy B. (Cormier) Demmer, 79, Former Hale Hospital Respiratory Therapist

Nancy B. (Cormier) Demmer, 79, of Andover and a former longtime resident of Haverhill, died  Oct. 9, at Lawrence General Hospital.

Born, raised and educated in Haverhill, daughter of the late Raymond and Beulah (Blinn) Cormier, she attended St. Joseph and Tilton Schools, and graduated from Haverhill High School with the class of 1955. Demmer went on to attend Merrimack College and received her associate degree in respiratory therapy from Northern Essex Community College.

Demmer was employed as a respiratory therapist at Hale Hospital in Haverhill for 19 years. She also owned and operated antique and consignment businesses in Newburyport and Portsmouth, N.H. A member of All Saints Parish and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Demmer enjoyed gardening, antique shopping, cooking and baking, crocheting, sewing and playing tennis. She had been struggling with Alzheimer’s for many years.

She is survived by two sons, Bryan Demmer and his wife Renee of Rochelle, Virg., and Kurt Demmer and his wife Taunya of Salem, N.H., ; three daughters, Gretchen Doumit of Haverhill, Erika Consentino of Nashua, N.H., and Krista McMahon and her husband Joseph of Lowell; her former husband, John Demmer; sister, Cheryl Merrill of Newburyport; 12 grandchildren; five great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Thursday Oct. 12, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill. Her funeral begins Friday, Oct. 13, at 11 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at noon in All Saints Church, 120 Bellevue Ave., Haverhill. Burial follows in St. Joseph Cemetery, Haverhill.
