A 54-year-old Methuen truck driver was cited in connection with last Friday’s death of a woman walking in Cambridge.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Cambridge Police Commissioner Branville G. Bard Jr. did not release the name of the Methuen man, but said the truck driver was backing up a commercial dump truck at 6:45 p.m., Friday, striking and killing 27-year-old Jie Zhao of Cambridge. Zhao was pronounced dead at the scene and the unnamed driver is being charged with negligent driving.

A preliminary police investigation found the dump truck had been traveling on Putnam Avenue towards Newton Street just past the intersection of Magazine Street. The accident occurred when the driver chose to backup to make the right turn onto Magazine Street.

An investigation continues by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Cambridge Police Department and State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.

No court date has been scheduled.
