The Merrimack Valley Credit Union recently donated $30,000 to help Haverhill-based Emmaus serve the area’s homeless.

Emmaus’s Executive Director Jeanine Murphy said the gift comes during “a particularly difficult time” since the agency’s emergency shelter, Mitch’s Place, faces cuts or reductions in long-term public grants.

“The Merrimack Valley Credit Union is an incredible supporter of the work we do each day at Emmaus,” said Murphy. “Under the leadership of Peter Mathews, this contribution will save lives.” The credit union has supported Emmaus for more than 20 years.

The Merrimack Valley Credit Union also supports Emmaus by holding food drives in its branches and through volunteering at the agency.

“The work Emmaus has been able to do with the most-vulnerable populations in our communities is astounding,” said credit union President and CEO Peter Matthews. “They have developed programs for men, women, and children that not only work towards getting a roof over their heads, but also equip them with the tools they need to rebuild their lives,” he said.
