Man Found in Methuen Park May Have Died From Overdose

The death of a 51-year-old man, found in a Methuen Park Thursday morning, appears drug related, according to a preliminary investigation by Methuen Police.

Methuen Police responded to report of an unresponsive male leaning on a bench just before 7 a.m., Thursday, at the Edward S. Alekel Veterans Memorial Park, 123 Milk St. Upon arrival, police officers and the Methuen Fire Department discovered a deceased man near the rear baseball field of the park, said Methuen Police Chief Joseph E. Solomon.

“This is a very sad situation where we suspect that an individual died of a drug overdose,” Solomon said. “We do not suspect any foul play at this point and residents should feel

Methuen and State Police detectives are still investigating.

“We want to assure residents that there was never any danger to the community and that all necessary precautions were taken to ensure that the park is safe and sanitary for them to use,” Mayor Stephen N. Zanni said.
