School Committeeman Paul A. Magliocchetti is the first candidate to confirm he will seek the Third Essex representative seat to be vacated by Rep. Brian S. Dempsey in September.

Magliocchetti, who ran for state Senate five years ago as an independent, told WHAV he has been registered as a Democrat for the past four years and will run in the Democratic primary.

“I believe that I have the experience, knowledge and ability to fill the position held by Chairman Dempsey,” he said.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to serve the good people of the great City of Haverhill and be Haverhill’s voice on Beacon Hill.”

Magliocchetti is a past president of the School Committee, managing partner of the law firm Sheehan, Schiavoni, Jutras and Magliocchetti, current chairman of the board of the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce, board member of Bethany Homes, St. John the Baptist Church Finance Council, an incorporator at Pentucket Bank and a coach for Riverside Bradford Little League.

He was previously an executive with KAY Manufacturing Technologies, Haverhill.

Other names being discussed as possible candidates are Haverhill City Councilors Andy Vargas and Thomas J. Sullivan and School Committee members Scott W. Wood Jr. and Shaun P. Toohey.

In September, Dempsey will become senior vice president and chief operating officer at Boston-based ML Strategies, a wholly-owned consulting subsidiary of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo P.C.

No dates for special primary or final elections has been set.

  1. we need someone who can fill brian Dempsey’s shoes. shaun toohey is the only proposed candidate who will have the support of governor Charlie baker. like brian, shaun will bring home the bacon to Haverhill.

  2. Haverhill needs candidates to run that are actually interested in solving the problems of the City and listening to and serving its constituents or don’t bother running – serving special interest groups isn’t serving the residents

  3. The LAST thing the City of Haverhill needs is another liberal Democrat being involved in public policy decision making. The city is already in financial ruin and is now socially a VERY dangerous place because of sanctuary city policy promoted by mayor failurentini and Anchor Baby Andy Vargas.

Last year after Supt Jim Scully fired a school employee for cause because she was incompetent and a trouble maker, it was school committee member Magliocchetti who secretly invited The Haverhill Hispanic Coalition to a school committee meeting to voice their disapproval about the firing by Scully. To gain political favor with a potential voting block, Magliocchetti completely disrespected the decision by Scully and his management decision publicly. It was as juvenile and self serving a move as you’ll ever see. Magliocchetti is just another hack liberal democrat doing whatever is necessary to promote himself in the good ole boys club.

    • He didn’t secretly invite them, they contacted him and he welcomed them to the meeting. Everyone has a right to be heard. He gave them the platform to have their voices heard. There was no intent to disrespect any decision made by Mr. Scully. It is his official duty as an elected official to listen to everyone’s grievances whether you agree with them or not.
Good ole boys club? Not sure what that means, it seems like an antiquated way of thinking for 2017, I’d like to think we are a little more evolved than that.

      • Antiquated thinking? You obviously are out of touch with the reality of Haverhill politics, Christine.

If you want the truth about the “good ole boys club” check out Mark’s Deli in Railroad Square sometime. If that isn’t possible I’d politely suggest you not make comments on a public forum about a topic for which you have no idea what you’re talking about. You’re embarrassing yourself.

        • Marks Deli? I don’t get the reference to power. It’s owned by” Dime Dropper” Dimakis a wanna be cop, soldier, arms dealer who blabs like a little girl.

Its frequented by clowns like” Shovels” Flaherty, “Fingers” Scatamachia and staffed with drunkard waitresses. Since the father’s gone the food is bad.

I wouldn’t take that place too seriously Jack under “Dime Droppers ” ownership the place is a joke. Sad ,the old man was a good man.

          • Not exactly sure what you mean by “the place is a joke”, but “it is” the place where the current and wannabe political hacks hang out.

You can even see Jimmy Taxman chatting it up about the ole times with his buddy Flaherty. Jimmy likes to remind Flaherty he was loyal to his thievery by doing nothing while he was ripping the city off blind, and that it was someone dropping a dime to the State AGs office that lead to him being pensionless. Jimmy has even been seen picking up the check, if you can believe that.

        • No you are clearly out of touch with checking facts and slinging mud. You are embarrassing yourself by slinging accusations that you clearly have no facts to support your claims.

By good ole boys club I simply meant you won’t find Mr. Magliocchetti at Mark’s Deli. I suggest before insulting my intelligence you start talking about the issues that face the city, which I’d love to debate instead of where to eat and absurd conspiracy theories that you know nothing about. You are a blowhard who’s disrespectful nature speaks volumes.

  4. Quoted in Tribune saying how good of a negotiator he is….sounds just like the small -pawed, orange , Russian -loving, fellatio dumpster in the White House .

    NO THANKS PAUL!

    • He was an independent who became a democrat. Who hasn’t switched their party? I know I have. The political climate has changed. Trump was a democrat who switched to become a republican. Its not who you were but who you are. At least he wants to be part of the solution not part of the problem like most people in politics.

      • He’s part of the pro Lemmon the school committee, what makes you think he’s going to change.
Team Paul and his puppets have been found and now his arrogance is leading him to Boston..
