M. Shirley (Stocker) Johnson, 94, Sunday School Teacher

M. Shirley (Stocker) Johnson, 94, of Haverhill died Saturday afternoon, Nov. 17, in Haverhill.

She was born in Haverhill, April 24, 1924, daughter of the late Herbert and Mildred (Tasker) Stocker. A lifelong resident of the city, Johnson was educated in the Haverhill school system and graduated from Haverhill High School in class of 1942. For a period of time, she was employed as a seamstress at the former Seavey’s Home Furnishings in Haverhill and also in the accounting department at the former Haverhill National Bank.

For over 70 years she was a member of Riverside Memorial Church where she was an assistant girl scout leader and taught Sunday school. A member of the Haverhill Garden Club and the International Order of Rainbow for Girls, Johnson enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, sewing and sailing. She and her husband spent many vacations in Bass Harbor, Maine, hiking the mountains on Mt. Desert Isle.

Her survivors include her husband of 71 years, Donald E. Johnson, a daughter, Donna E. Johnson and her husband Alan Foucault all of Haverhill, a brother-in-law, Arnold Johnson of Groveland, as well as several nieces and a nephew. She was the mother of the late Dana E. Johnson and sister of the late Edward Stocker.

Private graveside services will be held on Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m. in Walnut Cemetery, Haverhill. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes, Haverhill & Bradford.
