Ken Smith Discusses 14th Annual Pines Speedway Reunion

Many know Ken Smith as the retired chairman of the board and president of Pentucket Bank. If you’re old enough though, you might remember him as the boy selling popcorn at Groveland’s former Pines Speedway…or the race car driver…or newspaper reporter covering the races…or race promoter.

Smith appeared Monday on WHAV’s Open Mike Show with Tim Coco to discuss the upcoming 14th Annual Pines Speedway Reunion, Saturday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., behind Groveland’s Town Hall Complex, off Route 113.

Honorees include Smith, Hank Kiazim, Frank Presutti, and legends Frank Barthell and Buddy Merrick. The free event includes 40 restored race cars, a custom car show with awards, crew photographs, engine revving and more.

Smith also called attention to a “sneak peak” at the soon-to-be-completed North East Motor Speed Museum, located at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway, route 106, Loudon, N.H. The preview takes place this Saturday, Sept. 24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
