In Haverhill, Castro Tops Straw Poll in Essex County Sheriff’s Race

Methuen Democrat William Castro, candidate for Essex County Sheriff, received the most votes in the race during a straw poll Saturday during the Haverhill Democratic City Committee’s annual breakfast.

Castro won 40 percent of the unscientific poll involving an estimated 120 Democrats who gathered Saturday morning in downtown Haverhill.

Following behind Castro was Jerry P. Robito, 18 percent; Michael J. Marks, 16 percent; Paul L.D. Russell Jr., 12; Edward J. O’Reilly, 6 percent; and Kevin F. Coppinger, 5 percent. Three percent of those attending did not cast ballots in the race.

Kathleen A. O’Connor Ives, 77 percent

Adele F. Martino, 10 percent

Blank, 13 percent

14th Essex District State Representative

Diana Dizoglio, 60 percent

Phyllis Ann Jones, 23 percent

Blank, 17 percent

15th Essex District State Representative

Linda Dean Campbell, 84 percent

Christopher James Katsoulis, 6 percent

Blank, 10 percent

Rep. Brian S. Dempsey, Third Essex District, is uncontested in his race.
