A free seminar, “The Essentials of Pain Management,” with pain specialist Stephanie Gianoukos, takes place Tuesday, Dec. 6, 6 to 7 p.m., at Holy Family Hospital, 70 East St., Methuen.

The seminar, to be held in the ground-floor auditorium, identifies various types of pain, describes the effects of pain on the body, explains how pain is assessed and treated  and explores the goals of pain management in a hospital-based pain center, according to the hospital.

Gianoukos is on staff at the Centers for Pain Management at Holy Family Hospital, Haverhill and Methuen.

Light refreshments will be served. Registration is required.
