Hockey Teams Scoring Goals for Veterans Friday

Two teams face off in Haverhill at Veterans Memorial Rink in a hockey game to benefit “The Skate for 22 Foundation,” this Friday, March 31.

This is the second year the Haverhill Public Safety Hockey team and the New England Eagles Veterans Hockey Club battle it out for two 30-minute periods of action at the 299 Brook St. arena.

The Haverhill Public Safety Hockey Team is comprised of members of the Haverhill Police and Fire Departments and employees of Trinity EMS. The New England Veterans Hockey Club is manned by a group of veterans. The games give the veterans an outlet for the challenges they encounter after returning from their tours of duty.

The two teams are donating the proceeds of the event to “The Skate for 22 Foundation.” The foundation’s name enlightens everyone to the fact that an estimated 22 veterans commit suicide every day. The foundation raises awareness in an effort to end this crisis and provides support groups for veterans and assistance to families of veterans who have committed suicide.

Action runs from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Tickets for the game are $5 each, while children under the age of 12 are admitted free. Raffle tickets will be sold at the game for items including Celtics tickets, restaurant gift cards, nail salon gift cards and a home security system.

Pizza, soda and bottled water will also be available for $1 each.
