Haverhill Hillies quarterback Broghean McGovern has signed a national letter of intent to play football at Bryant University next year.

McGovern, the 18-year-old son of Thomas and JoAnn McGovern, has been one of the top quarterbacks in the Merrimack Valley Conference over the past three years. He was named to the 2016 MVC All-Conference team after throwing for 1,502 yards and 17 touchdown passes. He also rushed for 511 yards and six rushing touchdowns. Bryant University head football coach James Perry announced his first recruiting class last week with the signing of 29 student-athletes on National Signing Day.

“This year’s class adds a lot on the field and they are equally accomplished in the classroom. I look forward to working with this group of student-athletes over the next four years,” Perry said.

McGovern helped lead the Hillies to one of the best seasons in the 120-year history of the program. This year they went 9-2 overall and a perfect 5-0 in conference play to claim the 2016 MVC Large School title.

Bryant University, Smithfield, R.I., competes in the NCAA Division Football Championship Subdivision. The Bulldogs are members of the Northeast Conference and went 4-2 in conference play last year.

  1. Congrats to a great kid. You have been working hard since you started playing football for the J.G. Whittier Cowboys Way back when and have never stopped. You have earned every bit of this Scholarship. We wish you well in the future and know you will be successful.
