Helen (Kapp) Orenstein, 91, Registered Nurse

Helen (Kapp) Orenstein, 91, of Haverhill and formerly of Methuen and Salisbury Beach, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Haverhill Crossings.

She was born in Haverhill on May 4, 1926, the daughter of the late Dr. Henry and Mabel (Cohen) Kapp.

Orenstein was educated in the Haverhill public school system and graduated from Haverhill High School. She earned her nursing degree from Beth Israel School of Nursing in Boston and was employed as a registered nurse for many years.

She was an active member of the Salisbury Beach Betterment Association and Methuen PTA and volunteered her time as a Cub Scout den mother and at the American Heart Association. Orenstein could be regularly seen walking along North End Boulevard on Salisbury Beach conversing with locals and tourists alike. She enjoyed gardening, needlepoint and baking.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Jerome Orenstein, who passed away in 1990 and sisters Gloria Kapp and Barbara Berman.

She is survived by her son, Robert Orenstein and his wife Beth of Northampton, Penn., a sister, Janet Kopel of Haverhill, four grandchildren, Max Orenstein and his wife Sarah of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Hannah Orenstein and Jayne Orenstein both of Washington, D.C., a great-granddaughter, Mayaan Orenstein of Brooklyn, N.Y, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Friday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. Burial will follow in Children of Israel Cemetery, Haverhill.
