Haverhill’s existing Vietnam War memorial is getting a good cleaning ahead of the statue’s pre-Veterans Day dedication at the city’s new memorial site at Mill Street Park.

On Friday morning, the statue bearing the names of the city’s lost servicemen was removed from its original home on the Water Street side of the Basiliere Bridge by Rick Atwood of Atwood Memorials, who plans to spruce up the slab before it is relocated.

John “Jay” Davidowicz is donating the excavator and labor to move the existing memorial, which will be moved to the other side of town within the next week.

Members of the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Ad Hoc Commission plan to host a formal dedication ceremony at the new site near Plug Pond on Saturday, Nov. 10.

The Commission encourages veterans and families interested in taking part in the Nov. 10 program to contact VFW Commander Keith Gopsill via email at [email protected].
