Two city farms will have the opportunity to purchase upgraded no-till equipment for use on their Bradford locations thanks to an $86,000 state grant backed by the Department of Energy and Environmental Affairs.

Rogers Spring Hill and Crescent Farms have been awarded $57,440 and $29,280 respectively to buy the machinery for use at their properties.

State Sen. Diana DiZoglio applauded her Beacon Hill colleagues for recognizing smaller farms like those in Haverhill. “While farms are a staple of life in rural areas of the Commonwealth, smaller farms located in sparsely populated areas of our cities also play a critical role in our local economies and food systems,” Methuen’s DiZoglio, who represents residents in the First Essex District, said in a statement.

The local money is a share of over $1 million dispersed to 40 companies statewide through the Baker-Polito Administration’s Agricultural Climate Resiliency and Efficiencies program known as ACRE.
