Haverhill, hear their rallying cry: The city’s POSE organization is set to gather youth from the Merrimack Valley and beyond at Saturday’s “Rally for Youth” conference on Washington Street.
The weekend’s event is the second time Kat Everett’s Power of Self-Education group has encouraged residents to sound off on topics including mind and body wellness, mental illness, addiction and social justice.
Carrying a theme that focuses on power, potential and purpose, the daylong conference features guest speakers, performance art and wellness-based workshops. Presenters include makeup artist Barbara Rodriguez, musician Charles Cheney and members of Haverhill’s own Mount Washington Alliance.
The workshops are themed in an effort to get attendees talking about the topics that matter to them most, says Everett.
“The point is to have young adults speak their narrative of what they’re going through in their own voice to each other,” Everett tells WHAV.
Saturday’s events are free to those ages 13-30, Everett said. Registration and breakfast courtesy of Somebody Cares New England begins at 9 a.m., with the main session taking place from 10-10:45 a.m. Workshops, karaoke, lunch and games run from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. before dinner and the rally from 7-10 p.m.
