Haverhill’s Overnight Winter Parking Ordinance begins today.

That means, all cars and trucks left on public streets between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., must be parked on the even side of the road.

Overnight parking moves to the odd side of the street in January.

Last March, some city councilors blamed the parking ordinance for contributing to delays in plowing streets after a nor’easter blanketed the city in snow. A day after the storm, Councilor William J. Macek complained an estimated six to eight inches of snow remained in the middle of Haverhill streets.

Parking is banned altogether on certain downtown streets if and when a snow emergency is declared.
