A Haverhill sex offender named a “Fugitive of the Week” by the U.S. Marshal’s Office is off the streets following a joint arrest by the Marshal’s Office and local authorities.

Benjamin Rodriguez, 45, was arrested at the Westgate Plaza shopping center on Lowell Avenue Saturday by Haverhill Officer Sean Scharneck. Rodriguez was wanted on multiple arrest warrants in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, with charges relating to aggravated felonious sexual assault and failure to comply with the sex offender registry, the U.S. Marshal’s Office said.

The arrest came just days after Rodriguez was named a “Fugitive of the Week” and his name, photo and charges were distributed to area law enforcement agencies. In the bulletin, authorities said Rodriguez was last known to be living in Manchester, N.H. On a Haverhill police arrest log, Rodriguez’s current address is listed as 45 Ashland St. in Haverhill.

Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Jeffrey White praised the combined efforts of his team, Haverhill Police and other federal and state agencies from both Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

“Without this group effort, this team would not have had such quick success,” White said. “Thank you to everyone that made the location and arrest of Mr. Rodriguez a top priority, those efforts are greatly appreciated.”

Rodriguez was held in Massachusetts to clear up immediate legal matters before being returned to New Hampshire to answer to those warrants.
