“Immigration and Civil Rights,” a forum presented by the Haverhill Democratic City Committee, takes place Monday, March 27, with Boston City Councilor Josh Zakim and other speakers.

City Democrats announced the topic the same day federal Judge Derrick K. Watson in Hawaii temporarily blocked President Donald Trump’s latest travel ban, saying its amounts to “religious discrimination.”

“The new Executive Order does not expressly refer to an individual’s status as a ‘religious minority’ or refer to any particular religion,” said Watson, an Obama appointee. However, he ruled, “a reasonable, objective observer…would conclude that the Executive Order was issued with a purpose to disfavor a particular religion.”

Haverhill Democrats meet Monday, March 27, 7 p.m., at the Haverhill Public Library auditorium. Details about other speakers will be announced.

Zakim was elected to the Boston City Council in 2013 and chairs the City Council’s Committee on Housing and Community Development and Special Committee on Civil Rights. He authored and helped unanimously pass the Boston Trust Act in 2014, which prohibits the Boston Police Department from detaining residents based solely on immigration status.

  1. In April of 2013 two radicalized Islamic terrorists blew up bombs on the streets of Boston killing three people. Just 16 months later Boston City Councilor Josh Zakim voted to officially make Boston a sanctuary city, thereby providing safe haven to other extremists living in the City of Boston.

Civil rights to insane liberals like Zakim means defending the rights of Islamic extremists fighting a Holy Jihad in this country rather than protecting the rights of Americans. To liberals, modern civil rights means Islamic extremists should have their rights protected to leave bombs behind 8 year old little boys.

  2. I’m an unenrolled and very moderate Haverhill resident and would like to attend. I wonder if a moderate, not conservative individual such as myself would be welcomed at this forum.
