Haverhill City Councilor Daly O’Brien Endorses L’Italien for Congress

Longtime Haverhill City Councilor Mary Ellen Daly O’Brien is lending her support to Sen. Barbara L’Italien in her bid for Congress.

“As working mothers of four and also elected officials, Barbara and I have had parallel courses. Women bring invaluable lived experience to government, and we need her in D.C.,” Daly O’Brien said in her endorsement, which doubled as a segment for L’Italien’s “Moms on a Mission” video series.

Daly O’Brien applauded L’Italien’s ability to balance family and career as she heads into September’s Congressional election. “I’m proud of Barbara’s work on Beacon Hill, proud to call her a friend, and proud she has represented this part of the Merrimack Valley. Nobody works harder than Barbara—she is dedicated to her constituents, and is all about advancing her communities.”

L’Italien has represented the communities of Andover, Dracut, Lawrence and Tewksbury in the state Senate since 2015 and will appear on this fall’s ballot in an attempt to succeed retiring Congresswoman Niki Tsongas. The candidate chosen to replace Tsongas will represent the 3rd District, which includes Haverhill.

Ahead of Mother’s Day, L’Italien is especially grateful for Daly O’Brien’s support.

“I know through my own experience fighting for my son, which started my public service career, that nobody gets stuff done like a mom on a mission,” said L’Italien. “I’m proud to have the support of Mary Ellen and so many other hard working moms in this district who are making a difference.”

L’Italien faces opposition from Democrats including Dan Koh, Lori Trahan and Beej Das, among others.
