Greater Lawrence Technical School senior Jennifer Peralta is one of two students statewide chosen to attend the Congress of Future Medical Leaders event this summer in Lowell.

Superintendent John Lavoie said student council member Peralta was nominated for a spot in the congress by Nobel Prize winner Dr. Mario Capecchi in recognition of her academic achievement and leadership potential.

“Jennifer is an outstanding student and fully deserves this opportunity,” Lavoie said. “She goes above and beyond to serve her peers and the Lawrence community and we know that she will excel in whatever path she chooses to pursue.”

At the three-day conference backed by the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists, students from across the country will hear medical research reports from Nobel Laureates and meet with medical school deans to find out what’s ahead in med school.

Those organizing the conference are thrilled Peralta will be attending.

“This is a crucial time in America where we need more doctors and medical scientists who are even better prepared for a future that is changing exponentially,” National Academy of Future Physicians’ Richard Rossi said. “Focused, bright and determined students like Jennifer are our future and she deserves all the mentoring and guidance we can give her.”

After graduating from Greater Lawrence Tech, Peralta plans to attend Pennsylvania’s Allegheny College on a full pre-med scholarship.
