Mayor James J. Fiorentini Wednesday announced his intention to distribute $127,500 in grant money to Haverhill charities and non-profits for public service efforts.
Awarded annually as part of the city’s federally funded Community Development Block Grant, the money is earmarked to provide for unmet needs of low-to-moderate income residents. In addition to charities and non-profits, service agencies that work to better the lives of individuals and families in Haverhill are eligible to receive funding. Groups that benefit the homeless, disabled or veteran populations receive special attention.
“I want to encourage any group that is seeking funds for programs that benefit our most needy and vulnerable citizens to apply for CDBG funds,” Fiorentini said. “I am committed to casting a ‘wide net’ so that people of limited means do not fall through the cracks despite the fine efforts of our local human services community.”
Applications, available online or at City Hall, are accepted through March 1 at 5 p.m. A Community Affairs Advisory Board of locals appointed by the Mayor will review all applications, with funds being made available in July.
