Bradford_Rail_Trail_LogoThe Mayor James J. Fiorentini Bradford Rail Trail formally opens this Saturday with a ribbon cutting and walk.

The half-mile path, following the former Pan Am rail lines along the Merrimack River between the Basiliere and the Comeau Bridges, opens with a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m., at 175 S. Elm St., next to Mal’s II Barber Shop. An opening ceremony takes place at 10:30 a.m., at 15 S. Main St., behind Dunkin Donuts.

The rail trail features benches, historical and educational markers, “Wildlife in the Merrimack River Watershed” mural at Arthur Sharp Building and an Art Walk. The Art Walk, coordinated by Team Haverhill, already includes three of five planned trail sculptures.

Haverhill city councilors voted last month to name the trail in honor of Fiorentini.
