Ernest J. Cassidy, 90, of Haverhill and formerly of Chelsea, died Sunday, June 18, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, Haverhill.
He was born in Ashland, Maine, Aug. 24, 1926, son of the late Thomas and Alice (Gagnon) Cassidy and was educated in the Maine school system.
During the Korean War he served in the United States Army where he received a Purple Heart and Korean service medal with two Bronze Stars. Upon being discharged from the Army, he was employed for several years for American Biltrite, Chelsea, from where he retired. After his retirement he was employed at the Mobil Gas Station, Swampscott.
A Haverhill resident since 2004, Cassidy cherished time spent with his family and enjoyed working on antique cars, walking and bike riding.
He was the husband of the late Gloria A. (Bernier) Cassidy who died in 2014 and father of the late Patricia Lewicki.
His survivors include daughter Gail M. Gregoire of Haverhill; son Ronald J. Cassidy of Haverhill; grandson Eric B. Gregoire and his wife Katie J. of Haverhill and two great grandsons Ryan and Jackson Gregoire; as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours on Friday, June 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. His funeral will be held on Saturday, June 24 beginning at 9 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Hearts Church, Bradford. Interment will be in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
