And the race for Haverhill City Council is officially on! Two weeks after city native Nicholas Golden announced his candidacy for the municipal office, fellow Haverhill resident Douglas Edison has thrown his hat into the ring.

Kicking off his election campaign Thursday, Edison—a city resident since 2004—tells WHAV his platform prioritizes transparency.

“I am running for Council for two main reasons: transparency from our local government and the need for total inclusion,” Edison, a past president of Haverhill’s Brightside, said. “I have seen a lot of progress over the years, and I want Haverhill to keep moving forward.”

Edison and Golden, a Tufts University grad who works as an aide to Democratic state Rep. Lori Ehrlich, are each vying for one of nine Council seats. The terms of all current councilors—Joseph J. Bevilacqua, Colin F. LePage, Melinda E. Barrett, Thomas J. Sullivan, Timothy J. Jordan, William J. Macek Mary Ellen Daly O’Brien, Michael S. McGonagle, and John A. Michitson—are set to expire in November.

Haverhill’s municipal election is held Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019.
