Downtown Haverhill’s arts scene is expanding. City residents Sarah LoVasco and Hailey Moschella, co-owners of The Switchboard, have set up 43 Washington Street as a space for the community to create and foster their DIY desires.

As Moschella tells WHAV, The Switchboard aims to connect budding and established Haverhill artists of all mediums.

“With The Switchboard, the goal is to unite, inspire and support the creative community through arts and music-based programming,” Moschella explains. “That includes the gallery wall, workshops, events of all aspects to bring people together to share and foster the ideas of the people of Haverhill.”

The space officially opens on Friday, Feb. 2, with an open house and art exhibition by Brian Canty planned from 5 to 8 p.m.

Later in the month, The Switchboard launches twice-monthly DIY workshops. A Make Your Own Valentine session is up first on Tuesday, Feb. 8 and Saturday, Feb. 10.

Moschella tells WHAV artist speaker events and music performances are in the works, along with an art-focused summer camp in August.

Artists of all kinds are encouraged to stop by the downtown space to ignite their creative spark.

“Say it’s a writer that doesn’t necessarily want to work from home, but also doesn’t want to be set up at a coffee shop all day and want to be in a quiet space surrounded by people doing their own creative work. We hope (The Switchboard) is a place for them to come eventually. All of these things are going to take time to establish, but those are just some ideas.”
