Before having a change of heart, Haverhill City Councilor Mary Ellen Daly O’Brien appeared on WHAV’s New Open Mic Show last Monday to consider asking voters to again decide recreational marijuana.

Daly O’Brien explained the state legislature made changes to the recreational marijuana law after voters approved it in 2016. She said subsequent rules put Haverhill at a disadvantage.

During the second hour, Christina Eckert told hosts Bill Macek and Bill Ellis about her candidacy for state representative. Eckert, a Boxford Democrat, hopes to unseat Republican state Rep. Leonard Mirra of West Newbury. The district is comprised of seven communities, including a small portion of Haverhill.

Tonight’s New Open Mic Show guest is Dougan Sherwood, new president and chief executive officer of the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce.

The New Open Mic Show is heard live, every Monday night, from 6 to 8 p.m., on 97.9 WHAV FM. Video of the program is also available at WHAV.TV, WHAV’s Facebook page and HC Media Channel 22.
