Council to Hear Concerns Over Pedestrian Safety in Downtown Haverhill

Nearly one month after the death of Haverhill High senior Jordan Rankin, City Councilors are taking additional steps to address pedestrian safety in the city. At Tuesday’s meeting, Councilor Joseph J. Bevilacqua plans to introduce downtown coffee shop owner Dana DeFranco to offer thoughts on how to improve crosswalk safety in Haverhill’s business district.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, councilors are set to hear a petition for a new used car dealership on Kenoza Avenue. Updates on the Hack Haverhill civic technology competition and the upcoming Nov. 4 Veterans Alliance of Greater Haverhill breakfast will also be offered.

97.9 WHAV FM broadcasts the City Council meeting live from the Theodore A. Pelosi Jr. Chambers, room 202 of City Hall, starting at 7 p.m. on Oct. 23.

Here is a list of other municipal meetings taking place this week:

Tuesday, Oct. 23: The Merrimack Valley Workforce Investment Board meets at the Haffner’s Corporate Office, 2 International Way, Lawrence, at 7:30 a.m. to elect officers and hear remarks from guest speaker Stephen Michon of FutureWorks.

Tuesday, Oct. 23: Haverhill’s Rocks Village Historic District Commission meets at 22 Wharf Lane, Haverhill, at 7 p.m. to consider proposals from residents looking to perform property upgrades.

Wednesday, Oct. 24: The Merrimack Valley Planning Commission’s noon meeting, held at 160 Main St., Haverhill, includes a presentation on current and upcoming roadway, bridge and transit projects locally.

Thursday, Oct. 25: Haverhill’s Conservation Commission considers issuing a notice of intent to Virginia-based Hexagon Energy, LLC for the installation of a solar energy facility at 1037 North Broadway.
