Haverhill City Council President John A. Michitson is Team Koh for Congress. The local politician Monday formally endorsed Andover-based Koh in his bid to succeed Niki Tsongas to represent the 3rd District, which includes Haverhill.

“There are a lot of good candidates in the race, but Dan clearly stands apart from the rest of the field,” said Michitson, a 17-year member of the City Council. “Dan is full of great ideas for how we can generate economic development here in Haverhill, and he is actually taking the time to meet with and listen to local small businesses and community organizations.”

Michitson praised Koh for his forward-thinking efforts to foster innovation in the City of Haverhill.

“Dan understands that we need to invest in the innovation economy and create real pathways to the jobs of the future,” Michitson said. “I look forward to working with Dan to help strengthen the economy throughout the 3rd District.”

Koh—who maintains a campaign office on River Street—has long supported Haverhill small businesses. Last month, he hosted a focus group with small business owners in an effort to learn about what’s working well in the city and where there’s room for improvement.

“As a first-time congressional candidate, anyone who’s in this race should make sure they’re listening and pay attention to where the current tension points are,” the candidate told WHAV.

Marty Walsh’s former chief of staff Koh faces opposition in September’s primary from Democrats including Sen. Barbara L’Italien and Haverhill natives Alexandra Chandler and Rep. Juana Matias, among others.
