Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey was in Methuen Thursday to stress the importance of substance abuse prevention education during a visit to Marsh Grammar School.

Alongside Mayor James P. Jajuga and Superintendent Judith Scannell, Healey touted the district’s participation in Project Here, the $2 million effort to bring opioid prevention programs to elementary schools across the Commonwealth. State Reps. Linda Dean Campbell and Frank A. Moran also attended the visit.

As a participating district, Methuen receives an educational toolkit that includes lesson plans, teacher guides and other classroom resources. Last month, Healey heralded the introduction of the Project Here program at Haverhill’s Whittier Middle School.

Healey’s visit to Methuen came two days after her office filed suit against Perdue Pharma for misleading prescribers and consumers about the addiction risks of opioids.
