Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey made a trip to Haverhill Thursday to lend her support to Democratic candidate for Congress Lori Trahan, a key endorsement coming with just one month to go until the state election.

Healey offered remarks at the Haverhill Democratic City Committee’s new campaign headquarters in Haverhill’s Monument Square near Walgreens.

“Lori Trahan is a fighter. She was born, raised and stayed in this district,” Healey said. “We know the girl who delivered the local newspaper, the young woman who waited tables at the local diner, the mother and businesswoman will be a Congresswoman who never forgets where she came from and who she represents in Washington.”

Trahan said she was grateful for Healey’s support, and vowed to crib from the attorney general’s political playbook should she make it to Washington, D.C.

“You are living proof that it’s simply not enough to get angry – we have to get to work in order to solve problems, effect change, make a difference,” Trahan told Healey. “And that’s how I expect to approach my job in Washington.”

Healey wasn’t the only one to back Trahan during the local rally. State representatives Andy Vargas and Diana DiZoglio were joined by candidates Christina Eckert and Christina Minicucci, along with Trahan’s primary challengers Dan Koh and Alexandra Chandler.

Vargas said Lowell-raised Trahan is a well-rounded and well-informed choice for Congress.

“There are really three things that voters look for in a candidate, and Lori’s got all three of them,” Vargas said. “Does the candidate understand my problems? Does the candidate care about my problems? And does the candidate have the ability to solve my problems? Lori Trahan is that candidate.”

Trahan faces Republican Rick Green and independent Mike Mullen in the Nov. 6 election, with the winner replacing retiring Congresswoman Niki Tsongas.
