Haverhill High School senior Stephanie M. Guy was awarded the Haverhill Education Association’s (HEA) 2015 scholarship at a ceremony Wednesday night.

Guy, daughter of Paul J. and Maria C. Guy, was presented the scholarship during the association’s annual Honors Banquet at DiBurro’s Function Facility. Over the past few months, educators raised more than $2,000 for HEA’s scholarship fund. Guy said the money will go to good use.

“I am going to Merrimack College next year and I’m majoring in elementary education,” Guy told WHAV.

HEA President Joseph V. Cunha explained.

“The criteria has always been a student’s involvement in the community, a student’s commitment to certain causes as well, of course, their own scholarship,” he said. Cunha chose not to seek another term as president. Lisa R. Begley, a high school health and physical education instructor, will take the reins July 1.

The scholarship fundraising drive was headed by Anthony J. Parolisi, a social studies teacher at Consentino School.

HEA, representing teachers, clerical unit and education support personnel, is currently negotiating a new contract with Haverhill public schools. Despite ongoing bargaining, Haverhill Mayor James J. Fiorentini, chairman of the school committee, and school committee members Shaun P. Toohey and Maura L. Ryan-Ciardiello attended the event.

The event also honored the 20-year school veterans and 2015 retirees. Veterans include Kathleen Arivella, Cathy Clayton, Kevin Demarais, Patricia Dupre, Patricia Firger, Joan Forrest, Lee Henderson, Sheila Jameson, Tom Jordan, Joyce Kornachuk, Mary Lasonde, Heather Latch, Mary Litchfield, Cheryl Lynch, Christine O’Leary, Tempa Pagel, Eileen Paquette, Jennifer Peterson, Jody Plourde, Jennifer Roberts, Alberto Rosso and Janet Scanlan.

Retirees are Ellen Concanon, Susan Coppola, Cathy DeLong, Judy DeMellia, Barbara Harvey, Carol Ireland, Gracelyn Jegorow, Joe Leary, Cheryl Little, Lynn Noyes, Anita Probst, Nancy Rheaume, Cynthia Rubera, Marie Soraghan and Susan Thomas.
