While promoting energy-saving tips in the wake of a recent 37 percent winter rate hike in electric supply charges, energy provider National Grid says the company has “gotten into the holiday spirit” by teaming up with the city of Haverhill, and other Bay State communities, to support tree lightings and holiday festivals.

Haverhill will hold a tree lighting ceremony Saturday evening in Washington Square during the “ChillFest” event, formerly known as the downtown Christmas Stroll.

“The holidays are all about giving back to your community, and we’re proud to partner with many of the cities and towns we serve,” said Marcy Reed, president of National Grid in Massachusetts. “Whether it’s through tree lightings or ways to save on energy bills, National Grid is here to help our customers this season.”

According to a press release, National Grid is offering tips for savings in outdoor holiday lighting and displays, including the use of “LED” decorative light strings, which use up to 90 percent less energy than incandescent lighting.

The company has not specified its plans or presence during Saturday’s “Chill Fest” event. A National Grid Spokesperson did not respond to WHAV’s inquiries by deadline.
