A change in leadership is coming to the YMCA organization serving 25 communities across the North Shore, Merrimack Valley and Southern New Hampshire.

YMCA of the North Shore board of directors announced CEO Jack Meany is retiring at the end of 2014, after 35 years of service. Longtime YMCA leader Chris Lovasco was appointed, after an 18-month process, to become Meany’s successor as CEO on January 1.

Meany is credited with bringing together resources of smaller local Y’s and expanding their reach by growing the association, since its inception in 1999, to seven full-service facilities, 24 childcare centers, four teen centers, seven camps and nine affordable housing locations.

Most recently, Meany oversaw more than $1.8 million in capital improvements in the YMCA of the North Shore, including the opening of a new Plaistow Community YMCA in Plaistow, N.H.
