Donald J. Wood, 56, Whittier Vo-Tech Grad

Donald J. Wood, 56, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, passed away unexpectedly Sept. 19.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late, Harold E. and Joyce (Smith) Wood. He attended Haverhill Public Schools and was a graduate of the boat building trade from Whittier Regional Technical High School, class of 1977.

“Don Jay” as he was known, was employed in various capacities involving businesses with his large family. He worked at Jackson Lumber and was always available to do odd jobs around the city. An avid fisherman, he had his favorite spots at local ponds and reservoirs.

He leaves his loving siblings, Rodney S. Wood, of Haverhill, Philip M. “Pep” Wood and his wife Patricia, of Haverhill, Harold E. “Bud” Wood, and his wife, Kathy, of Bradford, Tracy S. Wood and his wife, Ruth, of Danville, N.H., Craig M. Wood and his wife, Diane, of Bradford, Cindy J. Wood-Tierney, of Haverhill, and Jaimie S. Wood, of Haverhill. He also leaves two aunts; Midge Wood, of Plaistow, N.H., and Shirley Downs, and an uncle, Philip Smith, of England, several nieces, nephews and cousins locally and in England. He was predeceased by his brother, Garry K. Wood, and uncles, Donald Wood and Les Downs.

Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Friday, from 5 to 8 p.m. with funeral services following the visitation at 8 at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (route 125) Haverhill. A private burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
